and, Lewis Hamilton won the F1 championship! WOOTS~

monday that Britain's Lewis Hamilton - who had an intense rivalry with Fernando Alonso when the Spaniard was at McLaren - won the Formula One championship by a slim margin.

"Hamilton won the world title by a hair," sports daily AS said in its headline above a photo of the 23-year-old standing at the podium after he clinched the title at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The newspaper called the race "heart stopping, emotional, worthy of the best suspense movie."

Rival sports daily Marca said the Formula One title "was decided in an agonizing final" which made the 23-year-old a "champion by 850 metres".

Hamilton clinched the title by overtaking German driver Timo Glock on the last lap to finish fifth in the Brazilian Grand Prix and win the title by one point over Felipe Massa.

He became the youngest champion in the history of the event, beating the 2005 mark of Alonso by four months.

"Hamilton woke up in time from the nightmare," said daily newspaper El Mundo, explaining that many had begun to fear that the British driver would lose the Formula One title for the second consecutive year at the last minute.

"A tremendous final for a great champion," wrote top-selling daily newspaper El Pais.

Two-time Formula One champion Alonso finished in second for Renault at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
